The coaching team said the Bulls played with their heart and soul, but they weren’t able to come away with the win from the northern side 19 to 17.
“The Bulls can take heart that the Northerners threw everything they had at the boys and just got away with the win," president Greg Moody said.
The team had to make some drastic changes from round one as many boys couldn’t attend the game on Saturday. The team suffered from not reserve forwards and had a real challenge from the powerful Walgett pack.
Captain Craig Ticehurst has singled out as a hard working forward along with team mates Nathan Jones and Angus Currans.
Bryan Perry played eight and then moved up to the front row when teammate Jones took a break.
“The hot conditions saw the boys drained at half time, the only score being a sideline try to Walget converted to see the home side leading seven to zero,” Moody said.
The two new debuts, backpackers Eddie Crossland (five eighth) and Sheridan Farley (flanker) settled into the side.
Crossland grabbed an intercept in the second half to race 50 metres and score under the posts with Farley converting his countryman’s try.
Shortly after the exciting try the Bulls took the lead when a penalty was successfully converted.
Tom Cleaver became a casualty of the game leaving the field with a hip injury. He was replaced by Fijian Jone Yacadaru.
Yacadaru quickly proved himself as a force to be reckoned with setting up a second try for Crossland, which Sheridan happily slotted through the posts.
Walgett weren’t to be outdone, they forced over themselves over the tryline which had the score at 17 to 14 to Nyngan.
With just 10 seconds remaining Walgett surged forward from the scrum to seal the victory with no time remaining.
“The whole team gave everything,” Moody said.
“Flaetch Jackson got through a power of work, Brett Moody kept chopping down bloke after bloke, Jimmy Elias continue to fit into his new role at half, while veteran Dom Kennedy looked like he’d never been away from the game, forming a dynamic combination with skipper Ticehurst.”
Players’ player was awarded to birthday boy Bryan Perry, points went to Currans, Ticehurst, Crossland and Elias.
Next week is the Bulls’ Members and Sponsors Day. An exciting game against Warren who have come away with scores over 80 from their first two rounds.
Gates open at 11.30am and entertainment by Bulls’ favourite Tim Ryan in the Bulls Shed after the games.
