NATIONALS AGM
The Barwon electorate was proudly showcased last week as over 320 delegates and guests visited Broken Hill for the Nationals Annual General Conference, all enjoying superb rural hospitality throughout the region. The strong numbers show how committed our members are to engaging in the policies and direction of The Nationals. The conference was also the first event held at the Broken Hill Civic Centre since its refurbishment, with Deputy Premier John Barilaro, Federal Member for Parkes Mark Coulton and I officially reopening the Centre, it is an outstanding facility of which Broken Hill can be rightfully proud. In summary, the direction of the party from now to 2019 and beyond is to focus on growing local economies, building better communities, protecting our land and resources and ensuring a future for our youth - all important issues for the Barwon electorate. I look forward to keeping you updated over the coming 12 months with the commitment that we will continue to enhance our communities in the Barwon electorate.

HAVE YOUR SAY ON BIODIVERSITY REFORMS
The NSW Government will undertake one more round of public consultation before its improved and simpler land management reforms take effect. The new system would provide strong environmental safeguards, while ensuring routine farm work was exempt from regulation. This package is the final stage of the NSW Government’s land management and biodiversity conservation reforms. The reforms were backed by an unprecedented investment of $100 million in the Saving Our Species program, as well as $240 million over five years and $70 million each year after that, for private land conservation. Consultation closes on 21 June and the reforms will commence on 25 August 2017. For more information, visitwww.landmanagement.nsw.gov.au.
HIDDEN TREASURES
I encourage rural and remote communities to nominate rural women volunteers for the 2017 NSW Hidden Treasures Honour Roll. Hidden Treasures is an annual initiative of the Department of Primary Industries’ Rural Women’s Network which recognises the outstanding efforts of women volunteers in NSW and to promote the valuable role of volunteering to the community. There are many outstanding female volunteers who provide valuable support and services to enrich the lives of others.
The growing list of nearly 700 rural female volunteers is a testament to the generosity and hard work of those who are publicly appreciated by their community. To nominate a Hidden Treasures volunteer, simply complete your nomination online or download a nomination form and share a few paragraphs about why your nominee is worthy. WORLD MILK DAY – JUNE 1
I urge everyone to celebrate World Milk Day on Thursday June 1. Raise a glass of milk in appreciation and give thanks to every hard-working dairy farmer in our electorate. It’s easy to for people outside the industry to under estimate the economic, social and nutritional value that dairying brings to our society as a whole.
Consider the following from Dairy Australia’s analysis: Australian dairy is a $13 billion farm, manufacturing and export industry. With a farmgate value of $4 billion annually the Australian dairy industry supports and enriches rural Australian communities.
