Not that far away with plus five was Sam Keating, he was level pegging with Rex until a couple of wayward tee shots dragged him down the ladder.
Dave Buggy was another one going great guns, however he always seemed to come unstuck on his second nine and did well to finish with plus four.
Brent Harris is the big improver, he had plus three and will get a lot better than that.
Sunday was an ambrose with Steve Peterson and Tex Tomek.
Just out staying John Wynn and Rex Vane to win by .25 of a shot, they had identical scores on every hole which seldom happens and a slight handicap advantage gave Peto and Tex 62 nett, both teams were even par.
Pins over the weekend went to Sam, Rex and three to Tex.
The Keno play-off was held on Sunday morning with the winning team of Adam McIntosh/Blair Denis (Trangie) plus nine on a countback over Greg Clarke / Steve Mann (Cobar) a close third was Frank Wright / Louis Ellis (Trangie) who scored plus eight.
Local knowledge was no help to our representatives who finished well down the track.
Tim Tulenew was the pin winner of that competition.
The ladies mid-week competition is up and running and the last couple of winners have been Jodi Stewart on 40 points and Jenny Holmes on 35 points.

Deb backed up to cater for the keno golfers as well.

RUGBY UNION
BOGAN BULLS
The Bogan Bulls have locked in third spot in the Western Plains Rugby Union ladder in the middle of the season with a 57 to nil victory at Larkin Oval.
The competition was the Cobar Camels a relatively close distance making it somewhat of a derby for both teams, particularly playing for the Neill Elder cup.
It was the second game back for club stalwart Dominic Kennedy who proved to be a spark for the Bulls in the attack, as he regularly went straight through the middle to open up opportunities on both sides of the rack.
He had an outstanding game, crossing the try line four times and winning man of the match in the process.
"His enthusiasm was infectious and the team put in one of their best efforts for the season," club president Greg Moody said.
The Camels lost a front rower early in the game but they held their own in the scrum and competed valiantly against the strong Bulls pack.
As fatigue set in the backs started to run rampant with a double to Oliver Hoare, Jackson Hedges and Craig Ticehurst getting amongst the tries.
Simon Bell's organisation from the back, Eddie Crossland's slick ball handling and deadly goal kicking and Ticehurst's bullocking runs and brutal defence were highlights in the backs.
The whole forward pack laid the platform for the backs, Jack Kennedy making the number eight spot his own in another top game, Fletch Jackson's lineout work is developing nicely.
Brett Moody, Gussy Currans and Tommy Cleaver chop down anyone who is in there way.
The Kennedy brothers and Currans took the points this week.
This week the second grade boys also got a game in this week, Cobar Camels came up trumps beating the home team 30 points to 20.
An admirable effort from a lot of the team who just played against the first-graders.
After getting away a three try lead through Tim Smith, Alex Miles and George Tuala, the Cales started to spread the ball wide and utilised their speedy young winter, who showed the clean pair of heels three times to raise the spirits of the tired Cobar boys and this entertaining game saw the visitors take the points and the win.
Patrick Milligan, Alex Miles and Toby Miles shared the points this week.
The Bulls have a bye this week for the Duck Creek Races.
The Club will be heavily involved with the races.
The boys will travel to Coonamble the following week.
"The next four games will test the depth and strength of the Bulls as a number of players are travelling to England for the wedding of Bulls' champion Bubba Perry and the delightful Jessica Pont," Mr Moody said.
"The club wishes them all the best and safe travels for our members making the trip."

PANTHERS TO INCREASE ACADEMY INVOLVEMENT
The Penrith Panthers feel an “obligation” to help develop players and the club is taking its plan to the next level by increasing its presence in the western area.
Penrith High Performance Manager Matt Cameron was at Dubbo last week, meeting with local rugby league stakeholders while also scouting locations for one of three expanded academies the club wants to have in conjunction with the Western Rams.
Cameron met with the principal of St John’s on Friday to discuss the use of the school’s facilities, namely the gym, for the Dubbo-based academy, while the other two would be based at Forbes and Bathurst.
These academies would work with the Western Rams under 16s and 18s sides in a pre and post-Christmas block of 10 weeks and the Panthers would not take over, the respective teams would still have local coaches, but the NRL club would be able to help assist and develop the coaches and programs.
With so much potential change in the NRL in the coming years, Cameron and his club is doing this to further strengthen its connection with the western areas, something which is set to be hugely beneficial for both parties.
Penrith already has a deal with Bathurst through the Panthers league club and the fact it will be taking one NRL match to the city until 2028 but Cameron says his club is determined to develop its relationship with the entire region.
“A traditional recruitment or development model is there's some boys in the western area we identify at an early age and we bring them to Sydney at 18 … and they play in our SG Ball competition,” he said.
“Alterations to the pathways model going forward, it looks like the stipulation will be NRL clubs won't be able to bring players down until they're 19 so philosophically we've decided if we can't bring the players to us then we'll being Penrith to the where the players are, hence the setting up of these three academies.”
While this move would help the club by forming a connection with the most talented players in the region, it is potentially sign of things to come in rugby league.
There is much speculation about the future of the game in this country and one idea tossed around is that of each NRL club being assigned a region and helping players from that area to develop.
“And is that a pre-cursor to an internal draft where an NRL club has first rights on a player that they develop in that area?” Cameron said.
“So there's some other big long term plans that people at NRL level need to talk about but the Panthers believe we are a development club and it’s our responsibility to help the develop the game.
“We've adopted a region through the western area and we're doing everything we can to help.”
