The support.
The Magpies boast one of Group 11’s most parochial supporter bases and given the success at the black and whites during 2016 there’s no shortage of noise from the crowd when the premiers play at Spooner Oval.
And Davis says that support will be needed more than ever on Sunday when Forbes hosts Westside, the round nine clash a key one for both sides.
The Rabbitohs’ search for a maiden win in 2017 continues, while the Magpies need a victory to both maintain touch with the top three – Forbes sits in fourth, one point adrift from third-placed Nyngan – and build some much-needed momentum following three losses in four games to end the opening round.
But Davis is confident the premiers can again hit their straps at home on Sunday.
“There’s definitely a few more (people at games) than when I was running around as a kid. The club’s in a good space at the moment,” Davis said.
The Forbes junior believes Westside, although winless, will be far from easy beats though.
“No, that’s right. They’ve got a good pack and last time it was really physical, they’re no easy beats,” he said.
“They’re not first on the ladder but it's certainly not going to be an easy game.”
For Forbes, last weekend’s 22-6 victory over Wellington was far from pretty, but it was an important two points following losses to CYMS (46-18), Parkes (28-18) and Nyngan (28-16) in the month leading into the turn of the season.
That period also included a 48-16 win over a somewhat resurgent Narromine outfit – highlighting the premiers’ battles with consistency.
“I just think we’ve been a bit inconsistent, sometimes we’re red-hot and others we can’t hold the ball,” Davis said.
“We’re just taking it week-to-week at the moment and focusing on ourselves.”
First grade between Forbes and Westside kicks off at 2pm. Powerhouse forwards Zac Merritt and Ben Maguire are chances of returning from injury.
