MORE GRANTS FOR MORE COMMUNITIES
Local communities in Barwon are set to benefit from changes to the NSW Government’s Infrastructure Grants. The NSW Government is making it easier to apply for Infrastructure Grants, with $12.5 million in funding each year for projects across arts and culture, emergency preparedness and sport and recreation. The new funding guidelines will mean the NSW Government can fund a wider range of projects. A simpler application process will cut red tape and allow for faster assessment. NEW ANTI-BULLYING STRATEGY
I encourage teachers, parents and students in Barwon to review a new website that co-ordinates evidence-based resources for school communities to identify bullying, prevent bullying, and respond to bullying behaviors. A comprehensive anti-bullying resource, developed under the guidance of leading Australian academics is now available for use. The new lesson plans within the strategy have been developed by teachers and are now available for all NSW schools. This valuable resource to assist school students in our communities best respond to bullying can be found at antibullying.nsw.gov.au
WATER SAFETY GRANTS OPEN
As you will likely be aware, last summer, we saw an increase in drowning deaths in NSW. 41 people lost their lives in NSW waterways – the highest figure for the same period in eight years. The NSW Government is committed to reducing drownings by increasing water safety awareness and resilience within our community. I draw your attention to the 2017/18 round of Water Safety Fund Community Grants, which are now open until August 4. To ensure we don’t experience another horror summer season, I urge local community-based organisations in Barwon who run water safety initiatives to apply for funding. Priority for Water Safety Fund Community Grants will be accorded to projects that aim to reduce drowning among high risk locations, activities and populations, and that strengthen and build resilience within the NSW water safety sector through collaboration and the establishment of ongoing partnerships. Grants range from $25,000 to $250,000, and collaborative projects between water safety and community organisations will be given precedence. Details on how to apply for Water Safety Fund Community Grants are available online at watersafety.nsw.gov.au/Pages/water-safety-fund/Water-Safety-Fund.aspx.
