Editor, as you published recently the Bogan Shire Councils Early Learning Centre has recently celebrated its first birthday. Whilst it has been open for 12 months, a great achievement; I found your article omitted the important 5 years that has led to the success today.

As a very devoted Bush Mobile family and a mother dreaming of returning to work I followed with interest as an amazing woman moved to Nyngan, saw a community in need of long day care and made it happen.
Nichole worked many hours outside her paid work; evenings and weekend were spent researching, assessing need and viability, applying for grants, writing letters and proposals. Whilst Nichole had supporters throughout the process it was not achieved without a few brick walls, numerous hurdles and many moments of doubt. So whilst it is a great the ELC have been open a year; that is only the tip of the iceberg and the whole process up to this point has been years in the making. The ELC are providing care and education for the young people of Nyngan, the staff go that little bit further providing family support, encouragement and reassurance to parents. Going back to work as a mother isn’t easy, so many things cause angst and anxiety as we try and re-enter the work force. It has been made so much easier for many parents of Nyngan due to that vision, drive and enthusiasm of Nichole Jenkins and in later times the Bogan shire council and the amazing staff of the ELC.
