All staff working in Barwon Visitor Information Centres will be trained in the latest customer service techniques thanks to a NSW Government program to help promote rural and regional NSW. The workshops were developed by the NSW Government’s tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW, in collaboration with TAFENSW. I am delighted to be providing our Visitor Information Centres with the right tools to deliver high-quality service for people visiting our region.

Our Barwon electorate has so much on offer and this fantastic program will provide staff the must-know tips and insights to deliver great visitor experiences. I encourage everyone to take part and register soon for this wonderful opportunity. The workshops are free and open to all Visitor Information Centre staff, whether they work full-time, part-time, as a casual or as a volunteer. Growing tourism in rural and regional areas is a top priority; we know how vital the industry is to our local communities.

FUNDS TO IMPROVE LOCAL FISH HABITATS

I encourage Barwon community groups, local councils and individuals to apply for funding to improve local fish habitats through the NSW Government’s Habitat Action Grants Program. Small grants up to $2,000 and large grants up to $40,000 are now available for community groups, councils and individuals. Since 2009, the NSW Government has invested over $4 million towards projects such as reducing erosion by stabilising river banks, removing invasive weeds and re-establishing native vegetation on riverbanks, removing barriers to fish movements as well as re-snagging waterways and restoring lost habitats”. Applications for Habitat Action Grants opened on Monday, 31 July and close on Monday, 18 September 2017. For more information about the program visit www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/hag
