A National Party Notice of Motion to reduce the Daylight Saving by one month was put to the Upper House last Thursday, but was defeated by the Opposition. This follows the tabling of a Petition of more than 6,000 signatures to Parliament supporting the reduction of Daylight Saving by one month.

Hopefully the National Party members of both State Houses of Parliament, with the understanding they should have of how the benefits of Daylight Saving are substantially reduced in March, will continue to push this issue.
This Saturday morning (26 August 2017) at 10.00am Council will have a short ceremony to unveil the John Hoare OAM Business Estate sign opposite the Shire Engineering Depot, followed by morning tea. Council recently unanimously voted to have this area named in recognition of John’s contribution to Bogan Shire over many years, particularly as Shire President. Anyone wishing to join John’s family for this unveiling is welcome to attend opposite the Shire Depot.
NAIDOC week for Nyngan was well supported again this year with well organised events through the week.
A large community gathering in a circle outside the Council Chambers with dancers, guest speakers and some good presentation by students’ high lightning the importance of preserving Aboriginal language commenced the week, ending with a special gathering in Rotary Park by the Bogan River on Friday.
The presentation by students in Aboriginal language of the Welcome to / Acknowledgement of Country sends a strong message, as it did at the opening of the Medical Centre and Viewing Platform and Bush Tucker Garden at the Solar Plant.
Dennis Callaghan and the (very few) members of the local Lions Club deserve a big pat on the back for the way they set up their Merry Go Round and give so many children a safe ride, as they did out at Rotary Park.
Our three villages (Girilambone, Hermidale and Coolabah) recently agreed to have similar entrance signs erected on the highway at each site. These three names have been cut from corrugated iron and have been installed at each village to identify them in a rather unique and special way.
Council has submitted an application for a grant to construct some aged care rental accommodation from the Resources for Regions State Fund. This accompanies the three applications Council submitted for lights at Larkin Oval, Irrigation at the Golf Club and upgrade to the Heritage and Moonagee Street Parks from the Stronger Communities Fund.
Work has commenced on strengthening the Bicentennial Wall on the edge of Davison Park, and replacing the damaged section in preparation for replacing the broken ceramic mural tiles. A new garden bed is being constructed in the Teamsters Rest Car Park adjacent to the Big Bogan and Cobb & Co Shed.
