Bogan Shire residents would believe they are not average people … and they certainly aren’t when you look at figures analysing the community.
The average person in the town is a 40 year old female with two children with between one and two cars at her house.
That is not typical of the nation. The typical Aussie is a 38-year-old female, married with two children, completed year 12 and live in a three bedroom house with two motor vehicles, according to 2017 Census figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).
But in Nyngan, females are more numerous in the population of 2382. That’s 50.4 per cent of residents.
On census night, 1180 people marked themselves as male (49.6 per cent), and 1198 marked themselves as female.
The average age of residents is 40 – two years older than the average Australian and there are 155 people in the 40-44 age bracket in the Bogan Shire.
The highest age bracket by numbers is the 50-54 group in which the town has 181 people making up 7.6 per cent of the population.
The second highest bracket is residents aged under four-years-old. There are 175 of them or 7.3 per cent of the town’s numbers.
Under half the townsfolk are currently married, with 874 (of 46.2 per cent) of people reporting they are married. This is less than the Australian average of 48.1 per cent of people in wedlock.
Over a third of Nyngans residents (or 35 per cent) have never married, 91. per cent are widowed, 6.1 per cent are divorced and 3.6 per cent are separated.
Of the 528 people who reported they are married, 728 say their marriage is registered and 185 are in a de facto marriage.
People identifying themselves as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders number 270 or 18.9 per cent. Across 2.8 per cent of people identify themselves as indigenous.
