Households in Barwon struggling with increasing power prices could save hundreds of dollars a year off their energy bills through discounts on energy efficient appliances, rebates will increase by 20 per cent, and small businesses could save up to $1,900 a year under the nation’s most comprehensive energy relief package. In addition, energy rebates for concession cardholders will increase by $50 per year to $285 and rebates for other eligible households will increase by $30 per year to $180, helping households doing it tough. SENIORS IN BARWON TO BENEFIT FROM GAME-CHANGING SPORTS PROGRAM
I encourage seniors in our electorate to participate in modified versions of football, netball and gymnastics soon to be available in Barwon as part of a $100,000 NSW Government initiative to help older people keep active and improve social connections. The Modified Sports Program for seniors is a new partnership with Football NSW, Netball NSW and Gymnastics NSW. This program is a great way to remove barriers that may prevent older people from participating in the games they love, and ensure they are reaping the rewards of sport.
I encourage any senior in our electorate to find out what new competitions and classes are on offer so they can literally start kicking goals while improving health and wellbeing. Modifications to sporting codes includes rule changes such as the introduction of “walking” in football and netball matches, and tailored gymnastics activities to cater for different levels of ability. To register or for more information about modified football, netball or gymnastics visit:

NEW LIFESAVING ASTHMA TOOLS FOR SCHOOLS
Children with asthma will benefit from two state-wide initiatives launched today, which will greatly improve their care at school and potentially save lives. A first aid eBook and a standardised asthma action plan will help teachers and other school staffs better identify a flare-up and act quickly to effectively manage asthma attacks. Asthma is often not understood as a potential killer but sadly, on average, it claims the lives of two children every year. The Asthma First Aid Management in Schools eBook and the Schools and Child Services Action Plan for Asthma Flare-Up were developed by respiratory specialists at Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network, after a 2014 NSW Ombudsman report found 20 children died from asthma between 2004 and 2013. The eBook will be available to all NSW teachers and school staff, and can be downloaded in 51 countries via the Apple iStore. The action plan brings together multiple asthma resources to ensure school staff have one standardised asthma first-aid form in schools across NSW – similar to the anaphylaxis action plan currently in place in all NSW schools.
OUT AND ABOUT
This week I will be out and about visiting all shires in our electorate. I look forward to meeting with councils to discuss Regional Growth Fund developments and am particularly excited to join the Bourke community at the R U OK – Convo Convoy on Tuesday.
