Toby Miles and Mick Bush had the boys peaking at the right time of the season, and only had to have them relaxed and under no stress at kick-off.
They switched straight into gear and it wasn't long before Dean Woods crossed the line and Matty Sheather added the extras.
Walgett settled down and started to gain some field position, but the Bulls defence held on for a long period until the Rams scored.
Alex Miles and Pat Milligan were having strong games up front. Classy fullback Tim Smith scored a fine try making it 14-5 to the Bulls.
Walgett weren't going to give up easily and came up with a converted try to make it a two-point game at 14-12.
Then just before half-time Matty Sheather opened up the field to see Tim Smith run a perfect line to go in under the posts. The try was converted and the Bulls were up 21-12 at the break.
As Adi Spicer, George Tuala, Nelson Taione and Dom Kennedy worked over the Walgett pack, our smaller defensive line of ‘Irish’ Pete McKennan and Jacob Shone kept chopping down their ball runners.
Mick Bush kept talking the forwards up. Matt Logston was instrumental in straightening up the attacking play .
Walgett threw everything at the Bulls after half-time and reduced the deficit to two points.
At 21-19 the home crowd was in full voice, but hadn't counted on Spicer and one of his barnstorming runs from 20 metres out, dragging a number of defenders over the line as he touched down.
With the extras added Nyngan led 28-19 with 10 minutes to go. The game clincher then came when Walgett was penalised 45 metres out. Sheather calmly put it right over the black dot to have the Nyngan supporters jumping out of their seats.
Jubilant scenes everywhere in the Bulls area as it hit home this was the first second grade premiership in the club’s history.
On September 23, the team will be presented with special awards at the presentation night at the Nyngan Rugby Club. Tickets are available at Aspect Property Valuers.
