Captain of Nyngan Fire Station, Rob Avard has said the dry winter has caused available bush fire fuel to become very dry.
“Residents need to be having talks now about what they are going to do when there are fires in the area,” he said.
“Will they leave early or are they going to stay and defend their homes.
“If they are going to stay they need to prepare their homes by ensuring that their gutters have been cleaned and free of leaves, all over hanging branches around the house have been trimmed and lawns are kept mowed. At least one if not two hoses attached to a tap located at the front and rear of the house.”
“The fire service will do its best to help the community but the sad reality is there are never going to be enough fire trucks to help everyone, this is why everyone needs to prepare their own homes in case,” he said.
