NATIONAL POLICE REMEMBRANCE DAY
I encouraged the communities in Barwon to pause and reflect on the sacrifice of our fallen NSW Police officers this Friday 29 September for National Police Remembrance Day. Every year we gather to remember the men and women who dedicated their lives to the safety of others. Our police officers go to work day in and day out not knowing what they will confront in the line of duty, or whether they will return home safely at the end of their shift. On this day, it is important that we acknowledge those officers who have lost their lives as a result of their policing career. But we must also pay our respects to our local men and women in blue who work tirelessly to keep us safe from harm every day. Our communities should never take the contribution of our police for granted. On National Police Remembrance Day, I stand with the entire police family to honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of community safety.

NSW TEACHERS RETRACING STEPS OF THE ANZACS
History teachers in Barwon are invited to walk the battlefields and trenches of the Western Front as part of the 2018 Premier’s Anzac Memorial Scholarship tour. From today, all teachers across the state can apply to participate in the 2018 tour. Successful applicants will join 20 students, other teachers and a tour historian on the educational and commemorative trip retracing the footsteps of the Anzacs for the centenary of the Battle of Hamel. The 2018 tour is a rare professional development opportunity for NSW history teachers, which will enable teachers to provide younger generations with first-hand knowledge of the sacrifice and courage of our Anzacs. Applications close on 23 October 2017. Click here to apply or phone 8061 9288 / 1300 838 233.
WOMEN’S SPORT THE FOCUS
As you know Local Sport Grant applications close 6 October 2017 - as we are getting closer to this date I want to encourage everyone in our Barwon communities to get out into your local sports clubs and promote this opportunity to apply for these much needed (and appreciated) funds. The program will provide $50,000 in the Barwon electorate for grassroots sports clubs projects, with individual grants of up to $20,000 available. The focus this year is encouraging more talented girls and young women into sport programs. Women’s sport is the fastest growing area of many codes and we are now seeing more big name sponsors and media networks recognising the public’s appetite for prime time viewing, but more needs to be done, including cultivating participation at a grass roots level. The grants will cover initiatives such as new sport programs, community and nationwide events, facility upgrades or projects that improve participation in sport. For more information visit sportandrecreation.nsw.gov.au/clubs/grants or phone 13 13 02.
NSW MAKES HISTORY
NSW has made Australian tourism history, setting several new national records and a series of NSW all-time records for overseas visitation. NSW welcomed just over four million overseas visitors who spent $10.1 billion in the State in the year ending June 2017. Rural and regional NSW posted its highest volumes of international visitors, nights and expenditure on record, welcoming 813,000 international visitors who stayed 14.8 million nights and spent $1.1 billion, up more than 22 per cent.
FUNDING FOR NEW EVENTS
Organisers of new or second-year events in rural and regional NSW, from January to June next year, can now apply for funding under round one of the 2018 Incubator Event Fund. The fund offers annual grants of up to $20,000 for new and existing smaller-scale events, to assist in areas such as marketing, public relations, venue hire and attendee research.
