CARPET BOWLS
Over the last two weeks we have had some great scores and few low ones.
We have two new players welcome to Lee and Margaret, we would like to see a few new faces on Thursday afternoons at 2pm.
The first week saw Dorothy and Audrey beat down Dawn and Jacki six to three.
Then Maureen and Shirley won 10 to one over Dawn and Jacki.
The final over four ends took the wind out Maureen and Shirley's sails when Dorothy and Audrey won seven to two.
The next week first up was newcomer Margaret and Dorothy who had a win from Shirley and our other newcomer Lee; eight to six.
The next game was a boil over Doreen and Maureen won 17 to one, yes 17 to one from Jacki and Audrey.
Again the wind came along when Margaret and Dorothy beet Dooreen and Maureen seven to two.
It was good to see Margaret win first up it must be a few tips from her partner Dorothy.
Lee played well it only took her a couple of ends to be able to draw her bowl come around and end next to jack, again it was the partner Doreen.
See you all Thursday at 2pm or at UNO Monday's 2pm.
GOLF
NYNGAN GOLF CLUB
Saturday's golf was a two person ambrose the advertised Irish two ball was deferred to this coming weekend.
With a score of 60.75 nett Chicky Parry and Bill Hare were narrow winners in their previous game they were defeated on the 18th by a chip-in.
This week they reversed the situation with a chip-in birdie themselves and finish with a par round.
Tex Tomek and John Wynne finished three under for their round and 61.25 nett they had three birdies and plenty of near misses in their round. On the same mark was Tony Lewis and Ozzie Smith plenty of birdies on the front nine by them but not a solitary one coming home and a bogey on the 18th was a sad way to end their round.
Pin winners were Chicky/Tex/Barry Howell. The Pennant game at Warren was cancelled at a very late stage. The boys came home and got nine holes in before some steady rain halted play. Mick Beetson was the star with 19 points, David Rose and Sam Keating were next best with 16 points.
The mid-week game was won by regular guest player Tex with 36 points. Jenny Holmes was a bit behind with 30 points and Mandy Martin snared the nearest to the pin. Next Saturday is the October Medal and Sunday is Nyngan Tyres and Batteries Irish Two Ball sponsored by Steve and Merril Peterson. Our ex-boss and old Pete had his turn at the $1832 putt, it looked in, a loose impediment must have tipped it out. Badge draw is for $900 and a good hearty meal.

RACING
Central West horses seek an anniversary celebration
By Ben Walker
While the $10 million TAB Everest (1200m) will take centre stage at Randwick on Saturday, bush trainers are also in for a crack at some big money. The $200,000 Anniversary Highway (1400m) will be held for country horses that have competed in a Highway Handicap at some point since its inception.
Six runners from the central west are among the nominations for the event – Not For Export (Dar Lunn), Galaxy Warrior (Gayna Williams), Beau Hoffa (Lee Van Den Bos), Cowboys Karma (Allan Gibson) and the Mack Griffith pair of Puzzling Wonder and Schedule.
Such has been the interest in the Anniversary Highway, a massive amount of nominations were received, forcing the hand of Racing NSW. And they have responded by adding a new race to Saturday’s program, the $100,000 Highway Consolation (1400m).
The race is dependent on there being sufficient acceptances for it to be run, with all nominations from the $200,000 Anniversary Highway (1400m) being automatically nominated for the Highway Consolation. For the consolation to proceed, Racing NSW requires that there must be at least 12 acceptances plus the emergencies from the Anniversary Highway. The four emergencies declared in the Anniversary Highway will be the first four runners included in the Consolation.
COONAMBLE WASHOUT

Coonamble Jockey Club officials will work with Racing NSW to find an alternative date for their $45,000 cup after rain forced the abandonment of Sunday’s meeting after four races. Just hours after Dubbo Harness Racing Club was forced to call off its six-race program, the CJC got through half of its card before a decision was made to not run the final four races. Among them was the feature over 1600m, an event which had drawn a field of nine runners.
It comes as a blow to the club, which has had an unfortunate run of losing its Cannonball meeting over the past few years. Central West chief steward Todd Smith said poor visibility was the determining factor in his panel’s decision. “After the third race on the program there was a fair bit of concern from the riders about visibility, particularly those that were back in the field,” Smith said. “We elected to run one more race and see how the weather panned out, but after the Crystal Sprint the riders again came back and said they had trouble seeing.
It hasn’t rained for months and it happens to fall on Cup day, so they’ve been a bit unlucky.- Todd Smith “In the end safety is the number one priority and we had no choice but to call it off. All the riders who were back in the field were coming back splattered in mud and they all had concerns. The jockeys that were up front couldn’t offer much because they didn’t get any kickback.
“It’s unfortunate for the club, because it’s their biggest meeting of the year. It hasn’t rained for months and it happens to fall on Cup day, so they’ve been a bit unlucky.”
Prior to the meeting being called off, cult hero Stoneyrise resumed from a spell with a strong win in the $25,000 Crystal Sprint (1200m). The gelding, trained out the back o’ Bourke by James Hatch, finished well from midfield to beat outslog his rivals in the rapidly deteriorating conditions. The six-year-old, ridden by Mathew Cahill, started a $2.80 favourite and beat Rubymay ($11.00, Ben Looker) by one-and-a-quarter lengths, with Professor Marx ($3.80, Robbie Dolan) just behind that pair in third. Hatch was over the moon post-race, admitting he had concerns about his star’s chances of taking out the event when the rain started falling.
“He’s a freak. To come from where he did on a wet track, first up. Unreal,” Hatch said on Sky Thoroughbred Central. “I was a bit worried because he was first up over 1200m and it got heavy but how good is he?”
For Cahill, the win was a pleasing one, and he expects the gelding to get better with racing. “He raced a bit closer than usual, which was handy,” Cahill said. “He got tired the last 100m, which he was entitled to do first up on a wet track at 1200m. “I knew the best part of his races was the last 300m, so I was confident he would pick them up, but he will only improve that run because he did start the labour a bit late.”
