Director of Development and Environmental Services’ Ty Robson brought the policy to council attention.
He stated a high proportion of the Bogan Shire Community do not comply with the Policy in its current form which prompted Mr Robson to see if councillors wish to continue with the policy as it is or whether amendments are needed.
The original policy was created in 2012 and amended in 2014, these rules include restrictions on the amount of pets per dwelling.
Rules include maximum of two dogs per dwelling in residential areas from 975 square metres to two hectares with owners seeking the general manager approval for additional dogs. One dog is allowed in a unit less than 975 square metres but they are not allowed to be hunting or working dogs. No dogs are allowed on commercial premises.
Mr Robson said the number of dogs located within residential areas has regularly exceeded the policy requirements.
“Further information from the ranger highlights that the numbers have continuously exceeded the maximum number prescribed by council’s policy which results in an unfavourable outcome from an enforcement and compliance perspective for the community,” he told council in his report.
“It is clear this is one area of the policy that requires review.”
A maximum of 10 fowls are allowed. No roosters in residential zones less than two hectares.
Two sheep or goats are allowed on a property, no bucks to be kept on premises.
Story continues after poll
Mr Robson said it has been proven the standard number of poultry, sheep and goats in town does not comply with the council policy.
Mr Robson recommended the council review and confirm their position of content on the policy and send the amended policy to public exhibition.
The council’s attention was brought to the kind of animal and number of animals per certain dwellings around town. They were asked to consider these numbers.
