Bogan Shire Deputy Mayor Glen Neill addressed the crowd, and spoke of the 6673 Australians that died at Flanders fields in October 1917 alone.
“That’s Nyngan three times over, in a month. That’s unbelievable,” he said.
“It’s incredibly important that we remember the sacrifice that many Australians made to keep this country what it is today.
“I think it’s important to keep this going into the future, because I’m sure a lot of people out there don’t realise the significance of Remembrance Day.”
November 11, 2018 will mark 100 years since the armistice was signed, ending the worst global conflict the world had ever seen.
Councillor Neill said organisers were aiming to make next year’s a big event.
“It’s always significant day, but we’ll try and make it a bigger event,” he said.
