A FEMALE p-plate driver caught driving at 46km/h above the speed limit says there was "no reason" why she was travelling so fast.

Officers attached to the Orana Highway Patrol unit were conducting patrols along The McGrane Way near Tullamore on Saturday at 1.50pm when a vehicle caught their attention.
This is a 100km/h signposted speed limit area.
"Police observed white coloured vehicle travelling well above the posted speed limit," officers said in a statement.

"A check was conducted on radar, detecting the vehicle up to 146km/h at the end of the check.
"A short time later the female driver, being a P2 provisional licence holder from Condobolin, was stopped."
Officers asked her why she was travelling so fast.
"The driver said there 'was no reason'," police said.
The female driver was issued an infringement, being P2 exceed speed over 30km/h.

The offence carries a $903 fine and the loss of five demerit points.
The driver's licence was suspended for three months.
