New medical centre
Our new medical centre continues to move towards completion with the car park completed and turf laid out at the side and back of the centre. The inside is being furnished and the necessary requirements for the procedure room and consulting rooms installed. Interviews were held last week for the three positions at the centre that council will employ, a practice manager, practice nurse and administration officer. Some very good and experienced applicants made the selection process very difficult, and it’s good that some local employment will occur from a council operated centre.

Council has finalised arrangements with a lady doctor keen to practise in the new centre and had hoped negotiations between the doctor and Western NSW Area Health Network about the visiting medical officer situation to the local hospital could also have been finalised to enable the Centre to commence seeing patients on the 1st May 2017. These arrangements are important as council had resolved that any doctor practising from the medical centre needed to be able to visit patients at the hospital.
These negotiations have progressed but are not yet finalised which will unfortunately delay the opening of the centre past May 1.
There will, however, be some open days with the opportunity for residents to inspect the centre and have their patient details recorded prior to their first consultation. Whilst the council will run the centre and employ the doctor and the staff, patient records are subject to very strict confidentiality arrangements and will not leave the surgery unless under doctor referral. All patient consultations will be billed on Medicare.
Trees damaged
Unfortunately some recently planted trees in Heritage Park on the eastern side, were badly damaged and broken off by some ‘yobbos’. Hopefully the police will be able to follow up some positive leads and find those responsible. The whole Heritage Park Complex not only remembers Nyngan’s early railway town history, but also people and events of the Anzac Centenary which should keep it well above any vandal damage.
Dump point
Council has shifted its “dump point” from the Teamsters Rest Area Car Park to the Flood Memorial Car Park near the Mid-State Shearing Shed. It remains an asset for travellers stopping in Nyngan, but is in a better position located away from the Medical Centre and away from where people stop to have their photo taken with the Big Bogan.
Path completed
The cement path around the lower recreation weir has been completed. This cycleway, skateboard track, walking trail will provide safe access from the levee bank on the town side of the river, under the car and railway bridges into Rotary Park.
New station
Our NSW Fire and Rescue members are now fully operational out of their new station in our industrial estate next to the Ag n Vet.
