But go viral it did, with the announcement “Nollsie is coming to Nyngan in 2018” reaching almost 100,000 people on Facebook and garnering more than 900 comments.
“We were really chuffed that the post was received so positively,” Duck Creek secretary Angela Kennedy said.
“We’ve always had pretty good entertainment of a night every year … we’ve had Dragon, last year we had Altiyan from X Factor, but I think Shannon Noll will top them all.”
The “brainwave” came from president Rohan Cleaver, with the response to the announcement prompting organisers to re-think the event’s layout. They’re expecting a surge in numbers.
That can only be good news for the local organisations and charities which benefit from the race day – this year’s event saw $5000 given to the medical centre to purchase some specialist eye equipment.
A surge in numbers would also be great for Nyngan, Ms Kennedy said.
“Lots of people that come to Duck Creek are from all over NSW and interstate,” she said.
“It does bring a lot of visitors to the town and is a benefit to our local businesses and … there’s lots of individuals and organisations in town who really benefit from Duck Creek.
“We’re really excited and looking forward to 2018.”
