The Bogan Bulls and Nyngan Tigers both said the upgrade would make training easier, and could have countless other benefits for the town.

“It’ll be a big benefit … for training nights, they were basically running around in the dark,” Tigers president Glen Neill said.

“It’ll give us the opportunity to possibly play on Saturday nights instead of Sunday.

“It might even give us the chance to attract bigger games. The facilities have always been good but the lights have always let us down.”

Neill said the lights – which people have been fighting for for at least 10 years – would benefit anyone who uses the oval.

“I think that’s part of the reason it got the tick. The government have realised it is a big benefit to the community so we finally got the nod,” he said.

“We’ve never got past go before … it’s well and truly overdue, and finally it’s happened.

“We’d like to thank the government for taking the initiative in Nyngan, not only for the sporting ones but everything that’s been funded.”

Bogan Bulls president Greg Moody said the lights not only benefited winter sports, but summer sports as well by making it possible for teams and individuals to train and play at night when the heat of the day has passed.

“It’s just going to enable better quality for spectators – that’s the big thing – and make training so much easier, because the sub-standard lightning affected the training,” Moody said.

“The old lights were pretty poor and trying to catch the high ball under those lights was near impossible.”

The lighting would also vastly improve safety at the venue, Moody said.

“The lights will light up the car park as well, which will make it a lot safer for patrons leaving the venue at night,” he said.

“Congratulations to all those people that have worked hard behind the scenes to get to this position where it’s actually going to happen. It’s taken a long time and a lot of hard work to get it over the line.”​
