Bogan Shire Council resolved to purchase and install the infrastructure at its November meeting.
The designated spots are outside the Nyngan Multi Purpose Heath Service on Hoskins Street, outside the Newsagency on Pangee Street, at the western end of Pangee Street, opposite Teamsters Rest car park, and outside the Bogan Shire Medical Centre on Pangee Street. The seats will cost a total of $6500.
Council’s general manager Derek Francis said the seating was a cost-effective initiative by the council that would benefit a large number of people.
“It’s not like $700,000 or $800,000 worth of a major project. It’s a relatively small amount of expenditure but we’ve had a number of people say there’s not enough seating in the main street of Nyngan,” Mr Francis said.
“Those spots have been identified as a result of community feedback to councillors.
“It’s relatively little expenditure to improve the situation for quite a number of people … and we’re always looking for feedback around where other seating might be required.”
Seating could be installed this financial year, with funds expected to be left over from the installation of new waste bin enclosures.
