The van will be at the Nyngan Museum’s car park from January 3 until January 19, 2018.

BreastScreen NSW Greater West health promotion officer Heidi Myers said the service provides free screening mammograms to women aged between 50 and 74 years.

“We all know that our lives are getting increasingly busy, but it is vital that women aged 50 to 74 make the time to have a mammogram every two years,” Ms Myers said.

“Women need to be aware that early detection significantly increases the chance of survival from breast cancer, and two-yearly mammograms offer the best chance of early detection.”

Breast cancer claims the lives of more than 900 women each year in NSW.

And it can affect women even if they have no family history of breast cancer; nine in 10 women diagnosed with the disease have no hereditary links.

Despite these figures, less than one in two NSW women receives their regular mammogram through BreastScreen NSW.

For women over the age of 50, a screening mammogram is the best way of finding breast cancer early. Breast screening can find cancers before they can be felt or noticed.
