The NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) were alerted to the fire about 9am on Wednesday, January 17.
Currently the fire is under control within containment lines, and poses no threat to nearby homes or property.
The area is being monitored by the local brigade and land holder.
Today there is a total fire ban in place for the Walgett area.
While there is no fire ban in place in the upper central region, the RFS has urged people to keep in mind the worsening weather, and advised introducing fire into the environment was not sensible.
Anyone with any questions or concerns can contact the RFS.
If anyone sees an unattended fire call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
