Mr Butler, who has begun his listening tour was in Nyngan to speak to members of the community, he aims to visit every town in the electorate to hear their concerns.
“I’ve been talking to people on the street, talking to farmers, and business owners and finding out what the issues are from their perspectives in the community.”
“It’s pretty clear from speaking to people from around the electorate that there’s a consensus that the Nationals have failed this electorate.
“They haven’t delivered the promises that they've given, and there’s a real appetite for change,” Mr Butler said.
Mr Butler has come from visiting Cobar and Broken Hill and said while many different issues have been raised, many are centred around water and rain.
“Obviously the big issue that keeps creeping up across the board is water, and I suppose the further West I’ve gone the bigger the water issue is.”
Mr Butler described the chain reaction community members are facing that “hinge on rain”.
“Retailers we spoke to in Cobar, one sells equipment for farms, but needs the farms to make money for equipment sales to happen, so there's so much that hinges on rain.”
In terms of drought and assistance Mr Butler believes there is more that can be done.
“I think Barwon deserves better in terms of drought assistance. At the moment we've got a system of low interest loans that are going out to farmers. Interstate and across the boarder we have cash grants.
“So for someone that’s struggling or that is or is already up to their eyeballs in debt and maybe cash flows is a problem, then just offering more debt probably isn’t the best solution.
“I appreciate it's a solution, but weather its a good solution or the best solution I’m not sure,” Mr Butler said.
Mr Butler believes it will be a three-way contest between the Nationals, Labor and the Shooters Fishers and Farmers Party.
“No matter the outcome, I want to use the focus on this election to make sure that our region is getting the attention and services it deserves.”
Mr Butler’s message for people is “Barwon deserves better”.
“This is the biggest electorate it's 40 per cent of the state and Barwon deserves its fair share, and that’s what I want to do.”
