Our local seniors are valuable members of many organisations in Nyngan, especially volunteer service organisations.
Four nominations have been received by Council for Bogan Shire’s Senior Citizen for 2018. They are Bay Lovett, Colin McCarthy, Annie Quarmby and Stephen Read.
Councillors will vote to decide the winner, with any one of these four people, all very involved in our community, worthy winners.
Everyone is welcome to the Seniors Morning Tea on Thursday at 10.00am at the Town Hall, where the winner will be announced.
With the swimming season finishing at the end of March and our pool closing, appreciation is extended to Pool Manager Zac and his helpers for another very good safe season.
Zac keeps the pool, the water quality and pool surrounds in excellent condition and puts top priority on surveillance of all swimmers.
The National Party held is pre-selection last Saturday, for Barwon’s candidate for the next State election in March 2019.
Andrew Sheer from Gilgandra, a local poultry farmer and someone well known in racing circles, was selected to replace Kevin Humphries the Local Member for Barwon, who announced he would not seek pre-selection for another term.
The State and Federal electorates that contain Bogan Shire are exceedingly large in area. Both Kevin Humphries and Mark Coulton (Federal member for Parkes) do a pretty good job travelling around such large areas.
Surely the size of the electorate, or area, should become part of the criteria when setting electorate boundaries to give some parity to city electorates and not be based entirely on population.
Council have estimates approaching again for the 2018/19 Budget and Works Program.
We have a Budget Workshop on April 19, 2018 to discuss the main areas of the Budget, and then our Estimates Meeting is on May 8, 2018.
The budget will then be available for public consultation prior to being adopted at the June meeting on 21 June 2018. Please contact your councillors or the General Manager if you want any project considered for next financial year.
Council donated $10,000 to the Mayor’s appeal for the victims of the Tathra bushfire, and $200 to the Mid-Western Equestrian Clubs to assist sponsorship for their local Open Dressage and Show jumping Day in May.
