For the second year in a row the Nyngan High School girls U18s Rugby Sevens Team have won their way through to the Combined High Schools (CHS) State Championships.
On Friday, April 6 the team travelled to Dubbo to complete in the U18s Rugby Sevens Gala Day.
Nyngan High teacher Wendy Robb said there were plenty of big hits, great breaks, fruitful kicking and good rucks.
Their first game was against Dubbo Senior Campus and the girls started strongly with a win 24-14.
In the second game the girls were up against Dubbo St John's and the girls scored a comfortable win 27-5.
The third game was against Senior Campus for the second time.
This game was a see-sawing affair with both teams displaying fatigue in the hot conditions.
However in the end the Nyngan High girls showed a lot of heart to come out on top 26-21.
The fourth and final game was against St John's again.
The girls were all class finishing off the day with another win 26-14.
Ms Robb said they were unsure who they will come up against in the state finals but said the school is impressed by their teamwork and sportsmanship they have displayed throughout the season.
“The girls have been working with Mrs Smith (the coach) during sport at school and attending after school training sessions,” Ms Robb said.
“We have been fortunate to have Gus MacDonald from NSW Rugby offer to come out and spend some time showing the girls some finer points of Women's rugby.
“We hope in the near future that we may be able to look at purchasing some tackling pads to allow the girls the opportunity to practice and hone their tackling skills during training.”
The girls will be heading off to the CHS State Championships which will be held in Sydney later this year.
“All the girls are very excited to be heading off to State Finals,” Ms Robb said.
“One young lady rang her parents to tell them. She was screaming down the phone ‘We are going to State! We are going to State!’ whilst jumping up and down, doing a little dance.”
