Buttons Powell has driven the school bus to Mullengudery for nearly 30 years, with wife Diane driving her bus on the Coffils Lane–Pangee Road run for about the same time.
School bus drivers like Buttons and Di very quickly become second parents to the school children, and both of them have probably nearly driven to the moon during this time.
I’m sure all family members on these two runs appreciate the care taken of their children by these two people, and we wish them both a happy retirement.
School bus runs are not completely out of the family, with son-on-law Lachlan Wallis driving the Girilambone school bus run.
Farewell
Council extends its sympathy to members of the family of the late Dr Marten Muis.
Dr Muis had very quickly become a much respected member of the medical team at our local hospital and medical centre, with his sudden passing a shock to all his patients and the medical staff he worked with.
Major Events
The first two of the major events at our Racecourse Show ground complex have arrived with the annual Anzac Day Nyngan Jockey Club Race Meeting today.
This is closely followed by our annual Nyngan Show on Sunday, May 6 and Monday, May 7.
Council have constructed three shade gate shelters for the show ground entry gates.
The shelter at Gate two will be a transportable one that can be moved to other venues like Larkin Oval.
Gate one will have the shelter entrance away from the road with a path along the edge of the road to keep pedestrians away from the traffic.
Council appreciates the $4,000 donation from the Show Committee towards the $10,000 cost of these shelters.
Our friends from Stormco were back in town last week coinciding with Youth Week, providing plenty to occupy our local children during the first week of their holidays.
Some new leaders came with the Stormco crew this year, with them all finding our local parents and children very friendly and appreciative of their programs and activities.
They enjoyed a late afternoon visit to the Solar Farm.
Let’s hope the local show can attract some very badly needed good general rain for our Shire straight after the event, as it sometimes has in the past.
Some Senior active local farmers are telling me their properties have not looked this bad and bare since the mid-sixties or early eighties droughts last century – Not good.
