125th Local Show was in full swing enjoying very fine weather. Thanks to President Will, all stewards, committee members, exhibitors and performers for again making sure the Show runs smoothly, is successful and remains a top family event on our district’s calendar.

Appreciation is also extended to all Bogan Shire staff involved in preparing the grounds and facilities for the Show.
After further Sydney meetings with John Holland Rail, local State Member Kevin Humphries told me that the speed of ore train through Nyngan will average between 30km to 40km per hour and will never reach 80kms per hour, absolute maximum speed could be 60km per hour.
Representatives from John Holland will discuss safety improvements with Council to the level crossing of the Mitchell Highway at the river end of town.
Thanks again to those who provided letters of support to our speed concerns. John Holland said they couldn’t reduce speeds to 20kms per hour as it would set a precedent for them to reduce speeds in many other State towns. A partial win!!
To whoever broke the top off the Centenary Fountain, just before Anzac Day, I hope you are pleased with your destructive efforts and feel you achieved something.
General Manager, Derek Francis and myself met with Mrs Patricia Orchard who was recently appointed the Local SES Controller for Bogan Shire. Patricia was the former Deputy SES Controller at Tamworth. Council welcomes Patricia to Nyngan where she has already started to cultivate some interest in reforming our local unit.
The new SES Building, located between the Fire and Rescue and RFS Sheds, in the John Hoare OAM Business Estate, will now be fitted out internally following some further State Government funding and $20,000 from Bogan Shire Council. We look forward to this unit being reformed in Bogan Shire, helped by the completion of the new premises.
Council appreciated the recent State Government Grant of $90,000 for our local Library. This will repay the $38,000 Council provided to install new air conditioning at the Library, and carry out some further internal upgrades.
Anzac Day was again very well supported in Nyngan as we paused to remember all those who served and those who did not come home. The day was even more special as in a few months the Centenary of the end of the First World War will be celebrated.
A special service prior to the March in Heritage Park marked this event. The great support from our local Schools and community ensures Anzac Day is very secure into the future.
Council’s Estimates Meeting to set the Budget for next financial year was held this week. Let’s hope some urgently needed extra funding for Local Government will come our way from the Federal Budget.
