Volunteers from across the community were invited to the Nyngan Town Hall for a morning tea to acknowledge and celebrate the profound impact volunteers have within our town.

Over 30 people gathered at the morning tea hosted by Nyngan’s Australian Unity from 10am on Wednesday.
Nyngan’s Rodney Robb guest spoke at the event highlighting his volunteering experience and what volunteering means for the community.
“Volunteering is something I feel has always been in me since I was a small child droving with mum and dad. I learned from that day that we may have to go 15 to 20 miles to help another farmer … that led into my way of life, that I had to give back,” Mr Robb said.
“You shouldn’t volunteer and expect to get something out of it, you do it to keep the dream alive.”
“I get a lot of pleasure seeing the young kids come up under me volunteering.”
“I love Nyngan and little towns and if we don’t get out of bed and put into little towns they suffer … we all should volunteer.”
“Volunteering is very easy and you get a lot of pleasure out of it,” he said.
Bogan Shire Mayor Ray Donald also thanked the volunteers in the community for their tireless efforts, which he described as the “backbone of Nyngan”.
Councillor Donald also took the time to recognise the selflessness of volunteerism, which has been present in the community extending back to the First World War, however discussed the increasing demand over supply and the decline of a younger generation of volunteers.
“It’s such a worthwhile thing and hopefully it picks up,” he said.
Cr Donald also said there is a need for today’s younger generation to be exposed to volunteering, which communities like Nyngan rely on.
There needs to be more exposure to volunteering work for today’s younger generation … and in a way that cultivates interest and sure up in the future for the need for volunteers we have,” said Cr Donald.
Awards were presented to a number of community groups including: Community transport volunteer drivers, Can Assist, the Nyngan Museum, Nyngan Hospital Auxiliary, Nyngan Show Committee, Lyn Webster, Wendy Robb, Meals on Wheels, Social Support Volunteers, for their work that helps the community function and survive.
The Nyngan High School hospitality students were also on hand serving morning tea and coffee to volunteers.
Volunteers were also treated to a special performance by students, thanking volunteers who “give a little, change a lot.”
