Whilst this will make it safer for those from the High School and Pre School, I think a highway crossing should still have boom gates, and more than just a stop sign at the Hoskins Street crossing at the eastern end of town. However, this upgrade is certainly appreciated.

It seems our friendly NRMA office, located in the old Westpac building will soon be closing like many other offices in small rural towns. Advice is that NRMA accounts can be paid at the local Post Office, or online.

However, closure of this office is just another withdrawn of a service that provided helpful advice to locals, similar to what was available at the Court House.

On a brighter note, Service NSW has indicated that it intends to move the RMS office, current employees and services to a location in the main street, and to expand the services available.

Council decided at its meeting last month to apply to join the Orana Joint Organisation of Councils.

Some of our original concerns about JO’s have been lessened with Councils able to enter or exit a JO if they wish. The four Councils that form the initial gazetted JO (Gilgandra, Narromine, Warrumbungle and Mid-Western Regional Council Mudgee) will elect a chairperson later this month, with Warren and ourselves to become members after this occurs.

  What substantial benefits to individual Councils JO’s bring remains to be seen, but with over 90 per cent of Rural and Regional Councils joining up we are better off in the tent with the other Councils than isolated on the west of the state. Extra regional road funding should be one area of improvement.

Major upgrades to Davidson Park are nearing completion, with new turf being recently laid outside the CWA rooms.   This new grass joins the new cement path to the hall, and two new garden beds outside the building. 

The replacement tiles on the Bicentennial Wall in Davidson Park next to the Medical Centre are due to be placed back on the wall this month.

A month seldom goes by in Nyngan without some fund raising activity to help others. Last month saw many “biggest morning teas” held to help those affected by Cancer. 

Council’s roadworks program continues to progress with two of the seven kms sealed on the Hermidale/Nymagee road (funded by State Government’s Fixing Country Roads Grant).

A further onr km has been sealed on Cockies Road, with the Roads and Maritime Services funding another two kms of rehabilitation works on the highway between Nymagee and Girilambone.
