State-owned corporation, WaterNSW developed a 20-year infrastructure options study across the state’s major rural river valleys. The options study lays the foundation for securing the future water needs of regional NSW, and is the first of its kind in more than 40 years.
The study outlines options for improving water management by further developing the state’s multi-billion dollar regional infrastructure portfolio, covering major dams, hundreds of weirs, pipelines and Australia’s largest surface and groundwater monitoring network across 30 regulated rivers.
The study looks ahead to address emerging issues, such as population growth, demand fluctuations in agriculture and mining, and climate change.
It is vitally important that Government makes the well-informed decisions about the future of water in our region and this study is a vital tool in achieving that objective.”
The options study will continue to evolve over the next two years with appropriate consultation to inform future infrastructure planning.
