The weather didn’t stop a huge crowd turning out to cheer on the boys and girls.
The first grade clash saw the Tigers go down 36-26 to CYMS, although we were beaten this was probably the best we have played this season. There were just a couple of lapses at crucial times that cost us dearly.
We were down 12-8 on the stroke of halftime when CYMS crossed for a converted try to push the halftime score out to 18-8. This turned out to be a telling blow to the Tigers. The boys fought on gamely in the second half but just couldn’t bridge the gap.
New signing Josh Merritt was a standout. He scored two tries and laid on a further two in a fantastic debut for our club. His presence will make a huge difference to this side in the coming rounds.
Benny was another to shine. He gets through a mountain of work and was only behind Josh Merritt as our best player. Young Liam Durrington also went well, playing out of position on the wing, he didn’t put a foot wrong and was very defensively. He also scored a nice try, well done mate.
The Reggies clash saw Tooley’s men go down by four points for the second week in a row. We held a 12-10 lead at halftime, but a terrible start to the second half saw CYMS race in three tries in the space of ten minutes to blow our boys out of the game. We made a late fight back but just fell short in the end. Rob Lane was good for us, he looked dangerous every time he touched the ball. Camo was another who stood out, as was Jacob Smith who is improving with each game.
The u/18’s saw our boys go down 36-8 to CYMS. Our boys tried hard but were just out classed in the end. This side has five u/16’s in them and are punching way above their weight each week. Keep hanging in there boys. Captain Jak Jeffery was very good, as were Terry and Cooper Ryan.
The ladies also went down, however these girls are having a red hot crack, but just can’t seem to get a result. We held CYMS at stages but little lapses in defence saw CYMS get away on us. Petria and Alana were the pick of our girls. Next week we travel to Wello to take on the Cowboys.
