Officers from the Chifley Police District have urged people to take extra care following recent reports that a number of scams are doing the rounds in the Central West.
The first involves a call from someone claiming to be from Telstra.
“This organisation [Telstra] does not ring its customers and persist with needing to know your financial and computer details,” a spokesperson for police said.
“A victim has handed over her personal details and bank account information and has now lost thousands.

“Ring Telstra if you have concerns, they will be more than happy to assist.”
Police have also received reports that the Nigerian bank scam is again active in Bathurst, along with a number of hoax lottery and inheritance scams.
“If it sounds too good to be true, then it is,” the spokesperson said. “Do not believe these fraudsters, do not buy iTunes cards or withdraw money from your bank. Your life savings could be gone in an instant.”
People are asked to report all scams to police or Scam Watch.
