In a nail biting affair Nyngan High School girls rugby 7s have finished fourth in the Combined High Schools State Championships, narrowly going down against Hunter Sports High 12-17.

Brittany Robb, Alahna Ryan, Ella Meldrum, Shianne Klante, Melanie Bodycott, Karlie Stephens, Rachael Forest, Olivia Ashton, Harley Yeoman and Emma Teale travelled to Sydney to compete in the competition.
Coach Cath Smith said the team have come a long way vastly improving especially with their technical skills, finishing fourth out of 10 teams competeting.
“The girls have come a long way since beginning rugby just over 12 months ago and we greatly thank the support of Warratahs Gus McDonald and Luke Mack who continue to be one of their biggest supporters,” Smith said.

“It was a pleasure to watch, there was a great display of determination, guts and sportsmanship.
“They gave it their all in the finals and should be proud of their achievements,” she said.
Smith said the program is continuing to grow and will continue next year, despite the loss of two year twelve students.
“We plan to continue rugby union in school next year, although the girls will be missing stalwarts Alahna Ryan and Brittany Robb as they complete Year 12, which all the girls are sad about,” Smith said.

“But the program is growing with more junior girls interested and learning the game.”
Smith thanked the Holmes family for supporting the trip to Sydney, Mr Dal Forno for running the water and Marie Klante for cheering on the girls. “A big thank you to Sophie Greig who came to Sydney as our personal strapper, for the love of Rugby she says.
“Once again thank you to the Bogan Bulls for their continued support along with the Nyngan community, we are truly blessed to have a great town that gets behind our children,” she said.
The school are hosting a union gala day this Friday at Larkin Oval for the community to get a glimpse of the schools’ footy.
The day kicks off at 10am featuring the open girls team that went to State, followed by the budding under 15s and the open boys.
Entry is free and a canteen will be operating.
