At the last meeting of the Nyngan Garden Club we were pleased to present Mary Burley, a founding member of our club, with The Anne Williams Clark Medallion for Outstanding Service. Anne had been a tireless and dedicated member of the national organisation, The Garden Club of Australia, for most of the second half of the twentieth century, resulting in the naming of a medallion in her honour.

The medallion can only be awarded to one member per garden club per year, with this being the first time a Nyngan member has been nominated for the award.
Mary has been the driving force behind the Nyngan Garden Club since its inception in February, 2010. Her expertise on the computer has been of great assistance to the club over many years, not only for financial reports but for promoting events with posters, compiling spreadsheets for trips, membership, programs etc and for keeping our Facebook page current and informative.
Mary is highly regarded as a keen gardener, who is always willing to share her knowledge with others. She has been our very efficient Club Treasurer from Feb 2010 to the present and has been one of the main organisers of our two local Open Garden Days, held in 2011 and 2015 and our very popular Christmas Markets held every year in December, where all money raised is donated to “Angel Flight”.
When Mary was proposed for this award, members voted unanimously in support of it. Congratulations Mary on receiving this well deserved award.
Many thanks to Melanie and Don Cameron for hosting our July meeting at their home, “Woodburn”, and to Buttons for taking us out in his bus. Members enjoyed strolling around this very established garden and many a geranium cutting was taken from Mel’s substantial collection.
The day was sunny and warm, perfect for a sit and chat, and we all could have happily stayed longer than we did.
Names are being taken for the Trangie – Narromine Open Gardens on the October 14. More details will be available at the August meeting. Our Flower Show is the day before and planning for this event has begun. Locals are invited to run stalls in the Supper Room of the Town Hall, at no charge.
Twenty-four members and visitors took part in the Lightning Ridge trip in mid- July. It is a fascinating place to visit and a most enjoyable three days were had by all. A big thank you to Don Cameron for organising the hire of the bus and for being our competent driver.
Our next meeting is at noon on Monday, August 27 at Lynn Hodge’s home, 39 Cannonbar Street. Visitors most welcome.
