Your Councillors and Executive are working together with sincere intent of maintaining and improving community outcomes.
- Kathryn Bell
I have enjoyed all contact with locals in the library, cafes, clubs, tourist attractions and shops who without exception have been welcoming and helpful.
It has been most interesting to learn of Nyngan’s stories, history and strength of character the residents possess and demonstrate.
Besides family and business commitments on the mid-north-coast, on my busman’s holiday, as a Councillor (Cr) in another local government area,
I looked up, invited myself and attended your Council’s August Meeting where I was greeted by affable, competent staff and Crs.
I sat through the (to some) mundane order of business necessary for the day to day functioning of Council and was delighted to be privy to a number of (to me) revelations.
I witnessed your Councillors and Executive are working together with sincere intent of maintaining and improving community outcomes.
An example is that Crs donated their annual remuneration increase to Nyngan Can Assist, a worthy local charity where all funds will stay in the area. Incidentally the initial donation that kicked off Can Assist five years ago was also form Council.
A further example is the seven resolutions worked on together to initiate a Council drought appeal and fund.
There were a number of other matters that demonstrated the commitment to community that at their own time and financial cost were decisions made to enhance and improve the lot of community here in the Shire.
Council is often an easy target for criticism, some deserved and some unwarranted.
It was however a breath of fresh air to observe well meaning, modest and respectful Council interactions and intent.
Here in the bush, I am encouraged to have experienced real local democracy and genuinely connected, concerned, listening elected members.
Many other councils could learn much from these proud, selfless and resilient Bogans!
