The ABRCA affiliated Delta Ag Nevertire Rodeo will happen on Saturday, September 22 at the Noel Waters Oval in Nevertire.
Comittee Member Sam Lawler said the ‘We of the Nevertire’ committee began in 2010 with the idea of putting on a fun family event for the small community during the last drought, with money raised going back into the town.
“It can be pretty tough going in the bush when it gets so dry, so we wanted to do something that would get the locals off their farms and have a bit of fun, even for just one day,” Mr Lawler said.
“Over the last few years we’ve held a number of really successful family muster days, with hundreds from the area attending, and raising over $65,000 for the community. But this year, with an even more severe drought on our doorstep we wanted to try something new,” he said.
Mr Lawler said that Nevertire held a “cracking rodeo” each Easter, however disappeared for almost two decades.
“With a few new young cowboys on the committee, we thought a rodeo was the perfect event to bring a bit of cheer to the area, for both spectators and competitors,” he said.
Gates open from 9am with the horse sports kicking off at 10am. The main show starts at midday, with a number of ABCRA rodeo events on show, including open, novice and junior class bull riding, saddle bronc, bareback, steer rides and barrel racing, with great prize money up for grabs.
“There will be limited seating, so bring a chair. We’ll have a full bar and food facilities on site for the day and we’ve also teamed up with the local pub in town the Nevertire Hotel, who will host the official afterparty from 7pm with live music and great meals,” Mr Lawler said.
“It should be a cracking day all round. And hopefully we’ll be kicking around some mud instead of dust, which will really make the event a success.”
“It’s also important that we thank our sponsors, the committee, the local community and the Warren Shire Council for their support, as without their involvement events like this wouldn’t go ahead,” he concluded.
Entries for the rodeo are open via Central Entry on September 13 and 14 by phoning 1800 028 992.
