Council and our Visitors Information Centre received some good news last week concerning the opening hours of the viewing platform at the solar farm. AGL has advised that the viewing platform will be open to visitors every day between the hours of 8am to 5pm. A solar-powered automatic gate has been installed with a button on the inside to let people out if they are still inside the viewing platform area after closing time. Appreciation is extended to AGL for making one of our major tourist attractions open on a daily basis. August was a great month for our Visitors Information Centre and Museum with 394 visitors coming through the doors.

What a great weekend it was when our League Tag team and our six Junior League teams all made their respective Grand Finals in Dubbo. Congratulations to all involved with special recognitions to all the coaches, officials and parents who do so much travelling for the players. Not a bad result for the Bogan Bulls also who made the finals in both grades.
The Bogan Shire Council Drought Appeal is now up and running with appreciation extended to our local businesses for their cooperation. Highlights from the media release in last week’s paper include -application forms for assistance are available on the Bogan Shire web site, Shire front counter and library. A separate NAB Nyngan branch account has been established to receive donation. All Bogan Shire residents are eligible to apply for assistance up to the value of $500. All applications are confidentially.
The latest information I have on loads of hay coming to farms in Bogan Shire is that the Lions Club District is organising these loads. Farmers wanting hay need to apply direct to www.needforfeed.org. Applicants will be sent a form to fill out and be assessed by Lions Clubs District officials, and if successful some hay will be sent. Council is prepared to unload hay at the showground and load bales onto the farmer’s vehicles at nominated times.
It was a privilege to represent Council at the service held at St Mathews West Bogan Anglican Church near Coolabah on September 2 to recognise the centenary of the brave actions of Arthur Charles Hall VC during the Western Front Battle of Peronne towards the end of the First World War. These actions earned him the Victoria Cross Medal which was presented to him by King George V. Arthur’s two sons, Denis and Charlie and families attended the service, a real first generation connection to a Bogan Shire First World War hero.
Bogan Shire is one of twelve Councils surrounding and including Dubbo that have been members of OROC (Orana Regional Organisation of Councils) for nearly twenty years. At a meeting in Coonamble last week it was decided to wind up this organisation and concentrate on Joint Organisations which will hopefully bring some regional State Government benefits to member Councils.
