McDermott has been involved with the Nyngan Tigers rugby league for nine years, and continues to dedicate her time and energy into the club.
On receiving the award, McDermott said her main drive for volunteering her time is to ensure the prosperity of rugby league within Nyngan.
“Like everyone else on the committee we do it because we love footy and want to see it go well in Nyngan,” she said.
“It’s a bit embarrassing actually, so many people do much work for Nyngan rugby league and I don’t think one person deserves to get recognised, it should be a club award,” McDermott said.
McDermott highlighted the dedication of a number of people within the club who also work to maintain the game of rugby league within the wider community.
“Our club is so lucky to have so many great volunteers, I don’t think people actually realise how much work is done behind the scenes to make the club run, just so Nyngan has football,” McDermott said.
“There are people who have been involved in our club that have been for most of their lives.”
