Students have been busy practising their dance moves in preparation for the Schute Bell Hermidale Hoedown next Saturday, September 22.

The students are hoping to help raise the spirits of everybody who has been suffering the financial, emotional, and mental effects of the drought.

The event will host Bathurst band ‘Nodding Thistles’ who play a combination of recent songs as well as traditional Australian bush music to create an atmosphere reminiscent of the old woolshed dances.

If there is a positive to be found amongst the devastating impacts of drought, it is the determination of communities to come together and support each other in these times of need.

Hermidale P&C Association President, Katie Mudford has been overwhelmed by the sponsorship support received for the event.

“We know that local businesses have been doing it tough with the ongoing drought, but we’ve been blown away by the generosity of businesses in the Nyngan and Dubbo area,” Mrs Mudford said.

“We held the first Hermidale Heodown three years ago, and it was so well received that people were talking about it for months afterwards,” she said.

The Hoedown will be held at the Hermidale Tennis Club on Saturday, September 22 from 6.30pm.

Tickets are $20 for an adult adult and $40 for a family.

“The committee wanted to keep the cost as low as possible so that everybody could enjoy the night without adding to the financial strain,” Mrs Mudford said. 

Meals are included in the ticket price and a full bar will be available on the night as well as free camping.
