Golf
The wild and woolly conditions on Saturday did not seem to worry Brent Harris the winner of the day with +five, a steady improver losing a bit of handicap recently.
There was only the one blemish on his card, a washout on the 12th a game he should be proud of.
The ball winners Dave Martin and John Wynne had a +three, their back nines were very ordinary compared to their earlier efforts where they were ahead of Brett. Perhaps they ran out of gas.
The shot of the day was Croc Read’s drive on the 16th, 270 metre as the crow flies, just beside the green then a nice putt for an Eagle.
Earlier on he missed an Eagle on the 7th. Sunday’s game had 39 starters in the Ambrose, a well mixed batch of golfers in Tim Tulenew, Kurt Pothole Whaley and Colin Arthur McCarthy got the cash with 57.33 nett, as usual plenty of birdies by them and one solitary Bogey.
The runners-up Bill Hare, Chicky Parry, Ken Burt had 58.67 nett, very tough nuts to crack they had no birdies on the back nine a rarity for them.
Tony/Tim Lewis and Matt Sheather had 60 nett, unfortunately they squandered a lot of shots early on and had too much leeway to make up.
The big hitters John Wynne /Tex/Mick Beetson were a couple under Par for their 61.33 nett.
In the mid week comp Jenny Holmes was way ahead with 41 points, she seems to have the wood on Tex (36pts) a perennial runner up .
Pin winners for the week were Ali Morriss (Wed) Nate Matheson, Kirby Edwards (Sat), Mick Beetson, Dave Buggy, Adi Spicer, Dave Bartley (Sun).
A big weekend of golf coming up Saturday is the nine hole family day in aid of the drought relief, noon start. Sunday is the ladies ad mens open championship with a 9.30am start.
