From 10am until 4pm at the 3CN hall there will be a display of quilts, crochet and craft along with morning and afternoon tea. 

Team Leader of Nyngan Days for Girls is encouraging the community to come along for the day to help them support Days for Girls.

“We’re going to display fabulous quilts, amazing crochet, stunning craft, we’re going to have lots of wonderful food sweet and savoury and it’s all going to be served by ladies full of love and joy because they’ve been part of Days for Girls,” Ms Walsh said.

The initiative aims to provide feminine hygiene products to girls and women in impoverished communities, where a lack of these supplies during menstruation can prevent them from attending school and work.

Sewing groups gather to make shields, liners and bags, which are then combined into kits: two shields, eight liners, two pairs of underwear, a washcloth, two zip lock bags and an instruction sheet in a drawstring bag.

Money raised from the Quilt and Craft exhibition will go towards buying materials to make the kits. 

“The best part about it is there’s so many things you can’t do anything about, but we can fix this,” Ms Walsh said.

“It’s very rewarding that with every kit we make it actually changes someones life.”

Ms Walsh said the Nyngan branch has been going since early 2014, and is continuing to grow, hoping that more people will jump on board and volunteer with the group. 

“It’s not like its fallen by the wayside, it has stuck and more people have joined which is great because it just means we can make more kits,” she said.

“There will be a display for Days for Girls so people can learn about it. If we can attract one new volunteer that would be wonderful.

“While the money will go to buy the materials and things that we need to make the kits … we could have all the money in the world, but we need the volunteers to actually make the kits. 

Ms Walsh encouraged anyone interested to join does not need to be a sewer and that there are many roles which don’t require sewing. 

The exhibition will be open from 10am until 4pm on Thursday September 27. Some items will be for sale and a quilt and crocheted rug will be raffled off.
