Golf
The more you play the better you get in any sort of sport. Chicky Parry is our latest Open Champion. He spends plenty of time on the course, plays off six and deserves his win with a Par round of 68. the Walker cup which dates back to 1928 is the award to the Open winner, Mr A Hobbs was the inaugural winner. Chicky (Stephen) had a shot margin over Robert Hay (Parkes), the conversion from grass to sand had a slight advantage in Chicky’s favour never the less it was a close tussle between them.
The ladies winner Narelle Kriz hails from Cobar, her score of 79 was a couple better than Mandy Martin, I do believe that Narelle outplayed Mandy around the green. Congrats to our new champions we hope to see you back next year to defend your titles. On the day there were heaps of other winners. B grade men’s Dean Woods 75 runner-up Steve Iverach (Dubbo) 80, Handicap President Sam Keating 63 nett on a count back over Pothole Whaley.
Ladies Jodie Stewart 87 on a count back over Vicki Hanlon (Condo), handicap Viv Pateman 65 nett, Dolly Ryan 67 nett. C grade the dark horse Geoff Smith (Trangie) 90 beat Brent Harris on a count back. Handicap Ken Sergeant (Wagga) 67 nett over Dave the Sparkie Buggy 70 nett.
Ladies winner by a country mile was the vastly improved Sarah Walsh 91, Sue Phillips (Cobar) did well for 102. Handcap went to Tara McDermott 63 nett then Glenis Prisk 67 nett, NTP and long drives were shared between Brad Hurley/Blake Dennis/Vicky Hanlon (Condo) Fay Hardwick/Sue Phillips (Cobar) Geoff Smith again. Fay again. For the locals Matt Sheather/ Brent Harris/Mandy/Josie Steward/Sarah Walsh.
Veterans winners were Steve Peterson and Fay Hardwick. Teams event Robyn Harris/Sarah Walsh/Mim Pateman with 193 nett. Junior prize Kasey Fay-Rise (Parkes) Nate Matheson won the Eagles Nest on the seventh, Matt Russell had the best visitors score 63 nett. Not so good was Ali Morriss who took 13 strokes on the 13th. Brad Toole matched that when his tee shot sunk in the river, then an air swing with his second ball. Mimo had to get the bank engine to push her cart around the course.
All up we had 83 starters with visitors from all points of the compass. Many thanks to our sponsors Tony Elias (Nyngan Toyota), the Shell Service Station, Marts Cafe (Nyngan), Roylance Forbes. A cast of thousand behind the scenes Helen Rose, Lecki Read, Lesley and Gail Lister, in the kitchen Don Lister, Boots Holmes, Jodie Douglas, Tex Tomek, for the score cards, BBQ cooks were Greg Martin and Dave Traslebat on the course was Dave Bartley, Tim Tulenew, Matho, Deb and Sam organised the day plus many ladies who cooked for Saturday and Sunday thank you one and all.
Saturdays family day was a huge hit with the kids the face painters never stopped, the Merry-Go-round never ceased, the money raised is a great start towards the Bogan Shire Drought Relief appeal, a heck of a lot people and business houses put their hands up to support the day once again thanks to you people for the day. Amen.

Racing
A rails hugging ride by Ken Dunbar on Sovereignaire in the Cup completed a four win haul at the Grenfell meeting on Saturday for the Dubbo based jockey.
Trained at Bathurst by Dean Mirfin, the eight year old gelding Sovereignaire was positioned midfield on the fence by Dunbar with Bon Honour setting the pace in the 2000 metres Oliver’s Hardware/Crutcher Developments Grenfell Cup.
Gentleman Max carrying the 61kg top weight took a slender lead at the top of the straight however Sovereignaire ($6) finished strongly along the inside rail to score a convincing win over the Trevor Sutherland, Wagga Wagga trained stablemates Run Hoff Run (Bryan Murphy, $3.20) and Gentleman Max (Michael Travers, $4).
Dean Mirfin was responsible for a fine training feat as Sovereignaire hadn’t won for over two years and was stepping up sharply in distance for the 2000 metres Cup.
Ken Dunbar kicked off his big day with a winning double on the Wayne Collison, Narromine trained pair Bring A Beer Along and Some Nights.
Bring A Beer Along ($5) shared the lead then broke clear to win the Benchmark 58 Handicap (1000 metres) from the fast finishing Malibu Stacy (Kath Bell-Pitomac, $21) and Benno’s Boy (Michael Travers, $2.80 favourite).
