To celebrate national Carers Week, Ability Links hosted a Carers morning tea to recognise and show appreciation for the contribution made by unpaid carers in the community.

A number of people gathered at the Bowling Club on Wednesday, October 24 enjoying morning tea and a number of games.

Ability Links organiser Wendy Beetson said it was an enjoyable morning to recognise and show appreciation of the the generous and sometimes thankless work of some of our carers in our Shire.

“It was a relaxing morning with some fun games along with all enjoying a lovely morning tea together,” Ms Beetson said.

“We played a few games of ‘Jack Attack’ – an indoor lawn bowling game, and I ran a fun trivia quiz.”

“There were plenty of lovely prizes won during the morning including a lucky door prize won by Colleen Smith,” she said.

Ms Beetson said there are over 2.7 million unpaid carers in Australia that make an enormous contribution to our communities, and the morning tea is a way to show our appreciation.

“I would like to thank the Nyngan Bowling Club for providing the venue and for their help on the day, and recognise Carers NSW who provided a small grant enabling me to put on the event,” Ms Beetson said.

Ms Beetson said she received great feedback from the morning and hopes to hold another get together before Christmas.
