The Snakes district representative cricket side were playing for a win in the Brewery Shield, a round two Country Plate berth and were attempting to maintain their seven-year hold of the Shane Smith Memorial Challenge Cup.
Nyngan took to the pitch bowling first but it was Cobar’s Josh Brown (89) who helped the hosts set an imposing total of 8/242.
M Holt (39) and Clay Neale (35) also contributed.
It was despite the best efforts of Nyngan’s Tyler Martin (3/30), Tony Payne (3/50) and Conor MacDonald (1/19).
However in reply the visiting Snakes were bowled out for 128, despite Payne’s starring role with the bat.
He top-scored for Nyngan making 59, trailed by Jak Jeffery (14).

Jackson Hedges took on the captain’s role in the absence of skipper Toby Miles, and said it was disappointing to lose their seven-year hold of the Shane Smith Memorial Challenge Cup.
The game was very disappointing as we hadn’t lost to Cobar for a number of years.
- Jackson Hedges
“The game was very disappointing as we hadn’t lost to Cobar for a number of years,” Hedges said.
“We dropped plenty of catches which cost us in the end.”
This included the crucial Cobar opening batter Josh Brown, who was dropped early in the innings and went on to make 89.
“The turning point in the game was when Connor MacDonald was run out off a free hit after we started well, chasing runs,” Hedges said.
Hedges said he hopes the team gets a few players back, notably Toby Miles, who did not play against Cobar.
The next game will see the Snakes take on defending premiers of the Brewery Shield in Narromine on January 20.
