Last week GIVIT NSW drought-relief manager Scott Barrett was in Nyngan to present a donation to Barnardos for their breakfast program, on behalf of AGL. 

Mr Barrett said AGL made a donation to GIVIT they requested be spent in the Bogan Shire to support families and community events in need. 

“It’s through [AGL’s] donation so far that we've been able to help out a couple of things in the area, including the Barnardos breakfast program,” Mr Barrett said.

GIVIT is a not-for-profit organisation which works in partnership with the NSW Government to support communities during the drought.

“We try and help get the right thing, to the right people, in the right way,” Mr Barrett said. 

“When I was up there a couple of weeks ago I met with a few different groups and community organisations including Bonardos, who registered with GIVIT.

“Once they are registered, they requested we find a donor to help out with their breakfasts that they have for these kids that come to town.”

For Mr Barrett one of the key aspects of the program is to help stimulate the local economy by donating vouchers from local stores, rather than bringing goods from Dubbo or Sydney. 

“One of the key aspects is the desire to buy things locally … we would rather buy in the local community to support the local economy,” Mr Barrett said.

“Because of our partnerships with government and some corporate partners all our overheads, wages and admin is already taken care of.”

“So if someone makes a donation to GIVIT 100 percent of that donation goes out to the community in need,” he said. 

GIVIT is an online platform where people can request support for a community organisation, charity, service club, which Mr Barrett said is to ensure the recipient remains anonymous. 

“We support individuals in need as well as local events that encourage and foster building and strengthening the community.” 

“If there’s a farmer that needs help or a local family that needs help no one ever finds out who that recipient is,” Mr Barrett said.  

“If anyone needs help, go to the GIVIT website and see what organisations we already have, or if you are an organisation operating in the Bogan shire by all means jump on board and register.”
