I continued discussions with the Indian Minister about India’s policy regarding pulses and other matters.

The pulse market in Australia has been impacted by India’s pulse protection policies.

With 1.2 billion people and a fast-growing economy in India, a solid trading arrangement with this country offers great potential for Australia. 

In Tokyo, Japan, my commitments have been concerned with the Trans-Pacific Partnership-11 (TPP-11) - the most beneficial trade deal that Australia has ever signed.

Already we will see reductions of tariffs into the 11 countries that are part of the deal around the Pacific region.

I was pleased also to promote Australia’s high quality produce and travel experiences to Japanese consumers.

I am proud of my role as Assistant Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment and its direct link to supporting those in the Parkes electorate.

I look forward to furthering discussions with our trade partners.

Western NSW Primary Health Network (WNSW PHN) is offering drought funding to assist communities in the region.

WNSW PHN will provide small grants within the range of $5,000 and $50,000 under the Australian Government's Empowering our Communities Program.

These grants will support wellbeing initiatives, upskill workers in the delivery of mental health services and provide information and training to community leaders and members.

Our rural and regional communities are extremely resilient, but the drought has been testing.

This grants program will have a positive impact for those in need and I strongly encourage all eligible organisations to put forward their strong applications.

Grant applications for Round 1 will close on 1 February 2019.

Potential activities include mental and physical wellbeing events, workforce training, activities to further build resilience and sustainability in communities, and awareness-raising about how we can better support others.

Community organisations (including sporting clubs and local governments) can apply for the grants.

To be eligible they must be based in the WNSW PHN region and be an incorporated organisation.

There is also specific provision in the program to support drought-affected Aboriginal communities.
