The Australia Day celebrations at the town hall were the perfect opportunity for the Bogan Shire Mayor Ray Donald to shed a light on the importance of rail safety in Nyngan.

Almost 50 new names were added to the petition to lower train speeds through Nyngan and improve the rail crossing at Hoskins street.
“It is a safety factor in our town that concerns the spreed of ore trains travelling through Nyngan, not all of them speed, but some of them do and we don’t think it’s necessary. We do think it’s very necessary to get flashing lights at the Hoskins street railway crossing,” Cr Donald said at the ceremony.
“We hope with a number of signatures and other efforts we can have that rectified and changed for safety’s sake.”
Cr Donald said the council will take the numbers to the state politician to help show that the community want safety.
“We’ll use the numbers to show more than anything how many people want to have it changed.”
“Thanks to those who signed it. I think the people I spoke to were supportive of what we were continuing to try and do.”
Petitions are still available to sign at the Library, the Shire and newsagency, with Cr Donald hoping he will have a “cool day” where they will be available to sign down the main street.
