Greg Rummans coached Deebank at last month’s Under 13 State Challenge – a tournament that forms part of the NSW Pathway to higher representative honours – at Dubbo.
There he starred with the ball for Country Thunder South West, claiming 4-95 over the four days, including 1-13 in the sides’ only win over Country Sixers Northern NSW.

Deebank also scored 16 with the bat, but it was the leg spinners’ control that caught Rumman’s attention.
“Someone like Tyson who gives it a good rip and spins them away from the right handed batsmen is a good asset in any team,” Rummans said.
“Someone who has good control and spins them a long way is a very handy prospect.
“He was tested a bit with the shorter wickets and bowling his leg spin was always going to be a challenge for him with the shorter pitch but he embraced it and adapted really well.
“He was one of the better leg spinners I saw in his age group and he contributed pretty well with the bat at times.”
Rummans said the Deebank had a bright future ahead of him if he continued to work hard.
“He was a good kid to coach with good character,” Rummans said.
“Leg spins are a tough gig, but I think his attitude and character will allow him to adapt as he grows.
“He has done quite well with senior cricket in Dubbo as well this year, he has taken wickets against adults, which is pretty good for under 13.
“If he stays on the right path and keeps giving it the right training, he will go forward leaps and bounds.
“He’s got a big future ahead of him.”
Deebank is not the only youngster on Rummans’ radar.
“There might be a theme out there Nyngan way,” said the Dubbo-based coach.
“Trae Smith, he’s a little bit older, but he’s one to watch as he gets into 15s and 16s.
“He’s again got a good character and someone you’d like to have in your own team.
“He gives 110 percent all the time and punches above his weight.
“He’s nice with the left hand bat. At the moment he’s probably a little bit limited but that’s got to do with his size, but in the next couple of years as he grows it will be really interesting to see where he ends up.”
