The stage 5 geography class at Nyngan High School rolled up their sleeves on Friday to tidy the river as part of Clean Up Australia Day.

The annual event is now celebrating its 30th anniversary and continues to live on after Ian Kiernan, who began the community environmental event in 1989 passed away last year.
Almost 300,000 volunteers turned out the first year and the number has steadily increased since then.
The organisation says the equivalent of more than 350,000 ute loads of rubbish has been collected over the years.
With the river currently being so low, students went to Rotary Park to help clear the waterway of rubbish.
